Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, has resigned and fled the country amid massive protests. The resignation was confirmed by Army Chief Waker-Uz-Zaman. This move comes after weeks of intense demonstrations and civil unrest that have shaken the nation.
Protests Escalate
The protests, which began as a student movement against a controversial quota system in government jobs, have evolved into widespread anti-government demonstrations. The initial demand was to remove the policy that reserved 30% of government jobs for relatives of veterans from the 1971 War of Independence. The protests quickly gained momentum and support from various sectors of society, leading to larger gatherings and increased tension.
Fleeing the Country
Sheikh Hasina reportedly left Dhaka via helicopter with her sister. As per reports, She is now in Agartala, Tripura. Her official residence in Dhaka was stormed by protesters, who ransacked the building and reportedly took items such as chicken, fish, and vegetables. TV images showed hundreds of people inside the residence, adding to the chaotic scenes.
