In another hit-and-run case, a woman and her husband on a two-wheeler were hit by a speeding BMW car in Worli on Sunday morning, Mumbai killing the 45-year-old woman and leaving the husband injured. According to official reports, the driver of the BMW was the 24-year-old son of the senior leader of the Eknath Sindhe-led Shiv Sena. Dupety leader Rajesh Shah’s son, Mihir Shah was behind the wheel and the police suspect that he was drunk when the accident occurred. Mihir’s blood report is still awaited. The car is registered under Mihir Shah’s name.

Mihir Was Suspected Drunk While Driving, Woman Dragged For 100 Meters

Police confirmed that at the time of the accident, Mihir and his driver Rajendra Singh Bijawat were traveling in the luxury car at around 5:30 AM after Mihir Shah drank at a bar in Juhu the night before. While on the way to Worli, Mihir asked the driver if he could take the wheel and drive himself. Not long after, the car hit a scooter with a woman and a man on it, identified as Kaveri Nakva and Pradip Nakva, residents of Worli’s Koliwada area. The couple was returning from the Sassoon Dock where they would sell fish, when the two were crashed by the BMW, throwing them into the air and crashing the bonnet. The car did not stop and kept speeding, so the husband managed to jump off but Kaveri was dragged for 100 meters leading to serious injuries.

Woman Declared Dead While Husband Suffered Minor Injuries

After the crash, the car left the spot. Kaveri was rushed into the Nair hospital where she was later declared dead while Pradip suffered minor injuries. Mihir later called his father and confronted him about the accident, police found his phone had been off since then. Upon investigation, police found attempts to destroy any clues or evidence, including a Shiv Sena sticker on the car’s windshield which was scratched. Four police teams have been deployed to look for the accused. Attempts were also made to destroy the number plate.

Shiv Sena Deputy Leader And Driver Detained

Mihir’s father and deputy leader of Shiv Sena, Rajesh Shah has been detained along with the driver. Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde called the incident ‘unfortunate’ and assured that the law and order will take care of the matter. This incident happened months after another similar case where a speeding Porsche car killed two 24-year-old engineers in Pune. The accused was a teen who was drunk drinking. Later, his father who was a prominent realtor, his mother, and his grandfather were arrested by the police after being accused of attempting to destroy evidence.
