Punjab’s Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar has been grievously injured after being brutally attacked with ceremonial swords by three unidentified assailants in Ludhiana, Punjab on Friday, July 5. People at the scene, or even the security personnel did not make an effort to help and stop the attack. The 58-year-old leader is supposedly a descendant of prominent leader and martyr Sukhdev Thapar and has been known for his vocal stance against Khalistan.
Gunman Seen As A Mute Spectator During The Merciless Attack
Sandeep Thapar was returning from an event at the Samvedna Trust when three Nihang Sikhs blocked him on the road and attacked him with swords in front of his gunman who made no efforts to stop the attack. Thapar was on a scooter with his security personnel when he was trying to reason with the men with folded hands, but it eventually turned aggressive. The attackers left the scene, leaving the Shiv Sena leader with severe injuries on the ground. People around the scene rushed Thapar to the nearby Civil Hospital. From there, he was transferred to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. Doctors suggested that he suffered acute injuries on his head, arms, and legs.
Police Identified Three Suspects, All Arrests Yet To Be Made
The Ludhiana Police registered a case of attempted murder against the three Nihang Sikhs. Two of the suspects have been apprehended in Fatehpur Sahid district while the third has not yet been captured. Thapar’s security man was also suspended upon negligence of his duty at the scene. Many political figures have condemned the attack of the Shiv Sena leader Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu, Bathinda MP, Harsimrat Kaur, and BJP Punjab Chief Sunil Jakhar. They demanded immediate action on the matter and accountability from Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Congress leader Pratap Bajwa also targeted Bhagwant Mann for the current law and order of Punjab.
AAP MP On Thapar Celebrating Operation Bluestar Anniversary
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh also condemned the attack while also suggesting that Sandeep Thapar should have practiced restraint while celebrating the 6th anniversary of Operation Bluestar and distributing laddoos. He further said that just last year, Thapar mocked the destruction of Punjab when the state was dealing with floods. He further suggested that the government must take appropriate measures against any hate mongers causing harm to communal harmony.
