President of the United States of America Joe Biden made the big announcement in a statement he posted on ‘X’ on Sunday, July 21 that he is dropping out of the 2024 US presidential election. This decision comes after an intense 48 hours of reviewing the polling data that suggested that Biden’s chances of surviving a second term as president were reducing. Furthermore, there have been worries about his health and mental fitness following his presidential debate with Donald Trump.

Biden In His Last Post Indicated Commitment To Winning Elections

Up till the day before on Saturday, Joe Biden kept assuring his commitment to the presidential race with just his last post being that of a clip of Donald Trump saying that this will mark the most important election in America’s history. Joe Biden agreed to the clip in the post, further adding, “I will win it”. However, Biden had a change of heart later on Sunday, making a final withdrawal from the presidential race.

Most White House Officials Weren’t informed

Joe Biden personally informed about his withdrawal to Vice President Kamala Harris, chief of staff Jeff Zients, and campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon. He initially held a video call with the White House along with his communication strategist Anita Dunn, following which he released the statement of his withdrawal, dramatically altering the political dynamics ahead of America’s elections. A senior official from the White House also reported that Joe Biden had been considering the decision for a few days. Reportedly, most of the White House officials were not aware of Biden’s decision to step down and found out later through social media.

Joe Biden Mentions Achievements In His Term

The 81-year-old president mentioned in his statement that it was in the best interest of his party of the country to step down and only serve the duties of the president during the remainder of his term. He mentioned the achievements America accomplished during his term, including the boost in the American economy, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, passing the first gun safety law in thirty years, and appointing the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. He also paid gratitude to the American people, further suggesting that the country also survived a pandemic along with the worst economic crisis.

Biden Endorses Kamala Harris

In a turn of events in America’s politics, Biden in his statement endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the new nominee from the Democratic Party. Ahead of presidential elections on November 5, Kamala Harris is allegedly set to aim as America’s first woman president, in the defeat of Donald Trump. The 78-year-old Donald Trump now becomes the eldest candidate in the presidential race. Moreover, Biden’s withdrawal although marks a huge shift in the elections, was still expected by many after a disastrous presidential debate on Biden’s end, followed by Trump’s gesture of bravery upon the assassination attempt.
