Paris Paralympics 2024: India At 16th Rank With Seven Gold Medals

Paris Paralympics 2024, also known as Summer Paralympics 2024, commenced on 28th August and will conclude on 8th September. A total of 79 countries are participating in the Paris Paralympics with 4400 athletes competing in 549 medal events across 22 sports. Currently, India is at 16th rank with 29 medals including seven gold medals, nine silver medals and thirteen bronze medals.

India’s Record

Indian athletes already broke the best record for India with a total of 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics 2024. The previous best record by Indian Paralympian was at Tokyo Paralympics 2020 with a total of 19 medals including five gold medals, eight silver and six bronze medals.

Number of Indian Athletes and Flag Bearers

India sent 84 athletes to compete at the Paris Paralympics 2024. They are seen competing in 12 sports. The flag bearers for the opening ceremony were Bhagyashree Jadhav and Sumit Antil. For the closing ceremony, the flag bearers would be Preethi Pal and Harvinder Singh.

Gold Medals

Avani Lekhara won a gold medal in shooting sport called Women’s R2 10 m air rifle standing SH1. Kumar Nitesh won a gold medal in badminton event called Men’s singles SL3. Sumit Antil won a gold medal in Men’s javelin throw F64. Harvinder Singh became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in an archery event called Individual recurve open. Dharambir Nain won a gold medal in an event called Club throw F51. Praveen Kumar won a gold in an event called High jump T64. Navdeep Singh won a gold medal in Javelin throw F41.

Silver Medals

Manish Narwal won a silver medal in shooting event called Men’s P1 10 m air pistol SH1. Nishad Kumar won a silver medal in athletics event called Men’s high jump T47. Yogesh Kathuniya won a silver medal in athletics event called Men’s discus throw F56. Thulasimathi Murugesan won a silver medal in badminton event called Women’s singles SU5. Suhas Yathiraj won a silver medal in a badminton event called Men’s singles SL4. Ajeet Singh Yadav won a silver medal in athletics event called Javelin throw F46. Sharad Kumar won a silver medal in athletics event called High jump T63. Sachin Khilari won a silver medal in athletics event called Men’s shot put F46. Pranav Soorma won a silver medal in athletics event called Club throw F51.

Bronze Medals

Mona Agarwal won a bronze medal in shooting event called Women’s R2 10 m air rifle standing SH1.
