Indian athletes are dealing with soaring temperatures in Paris amid the historic 2024 Paris Olympics. The Government of India took cognizance of the high temperatures and a lack of cooling in the rooms of the athletes in the Paris Olympic Games Village. As a result, the Sports Ministry becomes the savior of many athletes staying in Paris for the Olympics by dispatching portable air conditioners.
40 Portable ACs Dispatched To Athletes Amid High Temperatures
Due to soaring temperatures and humidity in the city of Paris amidst the Olympic Games, the Sports Ministry of India dispatched 40 portable air conditioners to the Indian athletes staying in the Paris Olympic Games Village to beat the tough weather. The air conditioners were sent to Paris after discussions with the Indian Olympic Association and the French Embassy, following which the air conditioners were shipped on Friday.
Paris Sees Unbearable 40 Degrees Temperature Amid Olympics
The two main venues for the Olympic Games, Paris, and Chateauroux, have been facing high temperatures as July is usually the hottest month in the country France. There are reports suggesting that a few days recently saw unbearable temperatures of up to 40 degrees in Paris. Upon this, several contingents had expressed their concerns about the weather in Paris following the decision by the organizers of the Games to shun the air conditioning so as to cut the carbon footprint of the whole event.
Unconvinced With The Cooling Mechanism At The Games Village
The Games Organizing Committee clarified that an underlying cooling mechanism, as well as built-in insulation, was present at the Games Village to cool down the temperatures. However, the measures remained unsatisfactory, which led to the U.S. contingents traveling there with portable conditioners. This encouraged other countries to also plug in and share the portable air conditioners with the commendable athletes at the Games Village.
Sports Ministry Ensures Athletes’ Comfortable Stay In Paris
India took the noble decision on Friday, August 2 to send 40 portable air conditioners to the athletes. The ACs were fully funded by the Ministry of Sports. The Ministry source revealed that the ACs have already begun to be used by the athletes. The Ministry further hopes for their comfortable stay in Paris and hopes it contributes to their good performance at the Games. Moreover, recently eight players including India’s bronze-winner Swapnil Kusale in the men’s 50m rifle 3-positions event were seen sweating copiously at the shooting range in the city of Chateauroux.
Finally our Indian athletes got AC in games Village at the Paris Olympics, the authorities didn't provide AC there and they have to face tough conditions in the humid weather there, so Sport's Ministry of India installed 40 AC there on their own expense @IndiaSports @Olympics pic.twitter.com/oBcmVzAbyc
