A murder case for killing a grocery shop owner in Dhaka has been filed against ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

A murder case has been reportedly filed against the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, along with six others. The case comes in light of the murder of a grocery store owner Abu Sayeed who was shot in police firing in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on July 19. This marks the first legal action against Sheikh Hasina after she resigned from her post and fled from the country on August 5.

Six Prominent Individuals Booked Under Murder Case

Among the six booked under the murder case are Sheikh Hasina, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and the Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader. The filing of the case also mentions former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman, and former DMP Joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarker. 

Grocery Shop Owner Killed In July’s Violent Clashes

The murder case has been filed against the deposed 76-year-old Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after she fled from the country a week ago amid intense student quota protests which have turned increasingly violent over time after the extremist Islamist groups reportedly infiltrated. The murder of the deceased grocery shop owner Abu Sayeed reportedly occurred amid last month’s violent clashes that eventually led to the fall of Hasina’s government. The clashes have killed more than hundreds of protestors. 

Concerned Amir Hamza Shatil Files Complaint

Following the crisis, Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus of the interim government has taken charge of the chief advisor, which is a post considered equal to that of the Prime Minister. The murder case against Hasina surfaced after Amir Hamza Shatil, a resident of Mohammadpur filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate. 

Police Shot Indiscriminately On Directions Of IGP And Home Minister

He reported that Abu Sayeed was killed on July 19 when the police were indiscriminately shooting at students and protestors. The police were reportedly shooting in the direction of the IGP and the Home Minister. The complainant, Amir Hamza Shatil was not close to the deceased Abu Sayeed but was merely a concerned Bangladeshi citizen and filed the case voluntarily.
