The Rajya Sabha witnessed a massive uproar on Friday, August 9, after Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar got engaged in an intense face-off with the Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan. The parliament session was buzzing with chaos after Jaya Bachchan and Jagdeep Dhankhar went head-to-head with Dhankhar losing his cool.
Jaya Bachchan Calls Dhankhar’s Tone Unacceptable
The clash between actor-politician Jaya Bachchan and Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar occurred after Jaya Bachchan questioned Jagdeep Dhankhar’s ‘tone of voice’ in the parliament on Friday. Jaya Bachchan while addressing the parliament claimed that Dhankhar’s tone is ‘unacceptable’. She expressed her disapproval suggesting that she is an actor, and understands body language and expressions.
Dhankhar Bursts In Fury, Warns Bachchan Of Decorum
Furthermore, Jaya Bachchan proceeded to say, “We are colleagues. You may be sitting on the chair…” She was then interrupted by Jagdeep Dhankhar who immediately urged for her to take the seat. Upon asking Bachchan to take her seat, Dhankhar hit back at her remarks stating, “I don’t want a schooling”. Jagdeep Dhankhar told Bachchan that, as an actor, she obeys and listens to her director, implying that in the same manner, she has to listen to the person on the chair. Jagdeep Dhankhar burst out in anger and said, “You may be a celebrity but you have to understand the decorum”. He also shouted, “No, no, enough of this!”.
Dhankhar And Bachchan’s Clash Earlier This Week
Earlier this week, Jagdeep Dhankhar and Jaya Bachchan once again shared sharp exchanges after Jaya was referred to as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’. Looking ahead, this Friday, Jaya then began addressing by introducing herself as ‘Jaya Amitabh Bachchan’. As she mentioned this, chuckles could be heard in the parliament session from the back.
Opposition MPs Walk Out In Support Of Jaya Bachchan.
Following the uproar in the Rajya Sabha parliament, Members of Parliament led by the Congress veteran Sonia Gandhi walked out in support of Jaya Bachchan, and to underline that they were not being heard or allowed to speak at the parliament. Opposition MPs gathered outside the parliament premises in support of Jaya Bachchan and many spoke on her behalf, as well. Congress comms chief Jairam Ramesh stated that opposition MPs were being consistently insulted in the parliament and were being denied to speak.
