The mother of a 12-year-old rape survivor from Ayodhya has made serious allegations against local Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders. She claims they offered her money to withdraw the complaint against Moid Khan, a party office-bearer accused of the crime.
Bribe Offer from SP Leaders
According to reports, Mohammed Rashid, the SP’s Bhadarsa Nagar Panchayat chairperson, allegedly tried to persuade the survivor’s mother to settle the case financially. This has sparked concerns about corruption and interference in the legal process.
Demolition of Bakery
In response to the accusations, the Ayodhya district administration demolished the bakery owned by Moid Khan. The bakery was found to be illegally constructed over a pond. The demolition took place on August 3, as part of actions against illegal constructions in the area.
Police Arrests and Legal Proceedings
Moid Khan, along with his employee Raju Khan, was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police on July 30. The pair are accused of raping the young girl two months ago and recording the crime. The case came to light after medical checks revealed the girl was pregnant.
BSP’s Support and Statements
Vishwanath Pal, the state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has also criticized the handling of the case. He mentioned that the survivor’s mother was being pressured to compromise. BSP has assured the family of support and a fair trial.
Government Response
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condemned the actions of Moid Khan, highlighting his affiliation with the SP. Adityanath criticized the party for not taking immediate action against Khan, which has led to political and public outcry.
